Hi there!
My name is Reyna. I’m a woman with a variety of interests who enjoy self-learning and teaching. Regarding self-learning, usually, I dive into areas far away from my expertise, just for the joy of getting new knowledge. I think because of that characteristic, I became a scientist.
Although, curiously, I never enjoyed the traditional school.  I have the utopic vision of getting the knowledge not because of obligation but pleasure.
Science is definitely my passion, but not the only one. For me, passion is action. Passion makes you move no matter the circumstances. For me, science is a way to train our thinking, find clues, and apply them to construct a better world. Science is a way to get surprises about life, and I love nice surprises!
Looking back in time, I became biologist because of the pleasure of being around of plants… The first time I went inside a greenhouse in Mexico City, I remember feeling just peace and happiness. That is the place where I can forget any distressful thought I could have.
Another of my passions is drawing and coloring…. Create concepts with color, designs, and textures. I am not fashionista neither a feminist, but a womanist. I believe women are beautiful beings, and with a bit of color, we bright, each one with our own unique tone.
It was shocking for me to realize that the number of women scientists surrounding me decreased as I was advancing in my career. As a woman, I understand the challenges we face and the priorities we choose. More importantly, as a scientist, I believe that gender equality implies understanding and accepting our differences. In those differences resides an immense potential that we must embrace. Nowadays, one of my missions is to bring some easiness for ladies interested in pursuing scientific careers or anyone simply interested in knowing a little bit of science.
